These are my 3 favorite scenes from John Carpenter’s movie “They Live” (1988). This movie based on the story by Ray Nelson, Eight O’Clock in the Morning narrates a metaphor of the suppression of consciousness and submission of modern society by a ruling class. In the case of They Live the ruling class is an alien elite that secretly rules the world by enslaving and resource exploitation.
The following 3, 10 min clips that you can watch for free in YouTube resume the 3 key moments of the movie. Probably you might not have time to watch the whole movie, although I highly recommend to watch it entirely, however if you are pretty busy and have no time to watch the whole 2 hour movie I can recommend you these 3 key scenes that can help you understand the whole purpose of the movie.
Important Scenes
Scene 1 mentions the awakening moment of the main character George Nade, the moment where he becomes conscious of himself and the environment and he discovers through the special sunglasses that there is an alien race hiding among the people..
Scene 2 George Nada who has awaken from the sleep and brainwash of the aliens, tries to wake up his best friend Frank. Nada is confronted with a lot of violent resistance but finally his friend gets to see the reality. That is the great challenge to get other ones to see.
Scene 3 Shows the reason why the human race has been put to sleep. George Nada, and his friend Frank discover how everything happened and why other humans are collaborating with the alien race.
